Bass … perhaps my favourite instrument of all, and key to most of the music I love. Even my favourite rock group, Yes, were driven by the Chris Squire’s churning virtuosity on the bass guitar and it was just as much a lead instrument as whoever was playing electric at the time.

But mostly I’m a jazz-head, a funk fan, a soul boy and a listener of hip hop (do they have a name?), and that’s reflected in this selection.
There’s also some drum & bass early on, so be warned …
